Conclusion from our Test:
Starting off from where we left off on our 2011 STi sedan.
After finishing product testing on the Tomei Arms M7960 it was time to test out another turbo. We chose to go with the brand new state of the art GTX billet wheel technology from Garrett, and use the ATP GTX3076R Stock location turbo.

The goal for this stage of the build was to really maximize and fully utilize the stock components along with having a very fun and efficient car that was realistic for someone to drive on the street, track or drag. This turbo would be the perfect match for anyone who is trying to get the most out of a stock motor, have quick response, and have one wicked car.

To put everything out on the table, we really feel as though we were maximizing several key components on the car, the motor, and clutch is still 100% stock. The Process West intercooler was getting close to its peak efficiency, the turbo was running at 25Psi, and given the octane of fuel we were getting close to the peak stability point of both fuels that where being used. The amazing thing is just how fast this turbo spools, looking at both race and pump gas you can see that compared to the stock VF48 the increase in lag is quite minimal for the huge gain in performance. Also given the altitude of 4200ft this turbo, compared to sea level it would be able to easily produce over 400WHP at similar conditions due to the increased air density.

The power delivery on the vehicle is very smooth and predictable, given the high efficiency TMIC the lag is kept to a minimal and the throttle is very responsive. The vehicle very easy to drive, quick, fun, and overall a simple build utilizing quality bolt on components from proven manufactures ensuring that everything is running at a safe and optimal level.

COBB Turbo Inlet Hose for MazdaSpeed 3

COBB Tuning announces the immediate availability of the COBB Turbo Inlet Hose for the MazdaSpeed 3. This sleek, high temperature silicone hose replaces the clunky plastic OEM piece. The interior features a uniform lining and incorporates a true taper design, eliminating any sudden neck-down in diameter found on lesser designs. The end result is a smooth, unrestricted path from the intake to the turbo inlet, adding power and improving responsiveness.

The custom silicone construction of the COBB Turbo Inlet Hose rejects high engine bay temperatures and keeps the intake air closer to ambient temperature. The steel wire reinforced design eliminates the issue of hose collapse that other inlet hoess suffer under vacuum at peak demand, yet allows adequate flex between the engine and the intake.

The COBB Turbo Inlet Hose is designed to be a direct replacement of the OEM piece. Steel sleeves are used to join the Turbo Inlet Hose to the stock intake and by-pass-valve. Installation is easy, requiring simple tools, no modifications and all hardware is included. Color choices include traditional COBB Blue and our new Stealth Black.

Tomei ARMS-M7960 – Mitsubishi EVO Bolt-On Turbo

The new Tomei ARMS-M7960 turbocharger built specifically for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 4-9 is now available! This is the largest bolt-on turbo to date for the EVO and is capable of delivering 400hp + with quick response. This is due to extensive R&D into the design of the turbine to find a good balance between power and spool to offer a great street and track turbo.

Graph on the left shows the performance gains on a 2.0L where the one on the right shows the performance gains on a 2.3L setup. Very stock-like response with a lot more power to boot.

This is a comparison of the M7960 to the stock EVO turbo. As you can see, the compressor is noticeably larger than the stock turbo.

Cosworth High Flow Synthetic Air Filters

Cosworth Performance Air Filters are constructed from a proprietary synthetic, non-woven single layer, pleated polyester filter media that requires no oiling. For an OE like fit, the filter housing is injection molded from High Impact Polystyrene or Polypropylene. Each Cosworth air filter has been engineered to fit the vehicles original air box providing a true cold air supply to the engine. Cosworth Performance Air Filters also provide increased air flow when compared to original equipment air filters.

Cobb Tuning Evo X Intercooler Hard-Pipe Kit

COBB Tuning unveils its latest performance piece for the EVO X, the COBB Intercooler Hard-Pipe Kit, and it does not fail to impress. It is currently the only kit that replaces ALL intercooler pipes (including the BPV) with weld-free single-pipe aluminum tubing. This uncompromising kit has the most comprehensive list of performance enhancing features available. Add the precision fit and one-of-a-kind appearance and it is clear that the COBB Intercooler Hard-Pipe kit for the EVO X is unequaled.

As with all intercooler hard-pipe kits, the stock rubber hoses to the intercooler are replaced with solid pipes to eliminate distortion under boost. But the devil is in the details, and that is where similarities end. The COBB EVO X Hard-Pipe Kit consists of single piece pipes made from mandrel bent aluminum tubing on both the cold side and hot side of the intercooler. The results are weld-free pipes from the turbo outlet to intercooler inlet and from the intercooler outlet to the throttle body, without unsightly mid-pipe silicone hose couplings that can disrupt flow or potentially blow off under boost. The hot and cold pipe diameters are increased from the stock 2.375” to 2.5”, enhancing flow even further.

The By-Pass-Valve (BPV) gets its own hard-pipe from the cold side of the intercooler, maintaining the factory location and orientation. Maintaining this connection from the cold side ensures that cool air is fed back to the intake system when the valve is in bypass mode, preventing overheating of the air charge post turbo. The BPV is located using a visually stunning COBB logo bridge that connects the BPV hard-pipe to the hot side hard-pipe.

The COBB EVO X Hard-Pipe kit is one of the very few that will fit with the factory air box in place (or the optional COBB SF Intake) as well as the stock front engine cover. The kit is completed with high quality COBB silicone hose couplings and heavy duty T-Bolt hose clamps to eliminate those embarrassing hose blow-offs than can occur when demanding the most from your EVO X.

The kit is available in Gunmetal powder coat or can be special ordered in high polished aluminum finish. Painstaking effort goes in to the fabrication, handling and packaging of our high polish kit, ensuring the parts arrive with a beautiful unblemished finish.

Cosworth MX5 Supercharger System Released

We Stumbled across this today, we are not a big Miata Company, but it’s pretty neat to see Cosworth Release something like this for the US Market.

The Cosworth bolt on Supercharger system for the 2006 -2008 Mazda MX-5 features a state of the art 4th generation Eaton MP62 rotating group housed in an integral inlet manifold. It was designed as a compact, flexible supercharger system for increased power with original equipment quietness and reliability without adversely affecting fuel economy. The MP62 has proven itself in a number of OE applications.

The all inclusive, bolt-on system features an efficient air to water intercooler, upgraded fuel system and complete installation hardware. A high flow air box cover and a revised accessory drive arrangement complete the major components list. An included re-flashing device takes care of fuel and ignition calibration.  This kit is currently available for North American specification vehicles equipped with a manual transmission.
