148mph Impact in an STi

Phil from Element Tuning took an impact at 148 mph in their Time Attack STi at VIR (Virginia International Raceway). The unloading of the car was attributed to the carbon wing structurally failing between the air foil and the mount, which put all the downforce at the front of the vehicle while quickly lightening the rear. A bruised arm and a few small fractures were all that resulted from this 148mph side impact thankfully. It just goes to show you that you never know what can happen, in this case, a part failure. Safety apparel, Hans device, racing harness, racing seat, and a roll cage are a must in any track car.

Phil being the trooper that he is has already found another shell and will be swapping the salvageable parts from the time attack car over.

We’re glad to see that you walked away from that Phil and we wish you a speedy recovery!
